The Department of Criminology was established in KITS in December 2020 with independent functions of teaching and research. Before that the Program was attached to the Digital Sciences Department. Karunya is the first university in India to start a BA Criminology Programme in the year 2017. The department also provides M.Sc. Applied Criminology, M.A. Victimology and Ph.D. In its truest essence, the department is specializing in the field of Crime, Victim assistance, Criminal Psychology, Forensic Science, Criminal Law, Police Administration, Correctional Administration, Forensic Medicine, Juvenile Justice, Private Detective and Security and other related fields. Along with the theoretical input, students are taken to visit various criminal justice institutions, given hands-on training through a well-established criminology lab and outdoor training for professional development. Currently, there are 200 students and three research scholars in the department. The faculty of the Department of Criminology is actively engaged in organizing various events such as conferences, seminars, workshops, special lectures, social activities, extra-curricular activities and so on.

To develop into an International Resource and Training Centre in matters related to Criminal Justice, Victim assistance, Victim rehabilitation, correctional administration and scientific method of investigation.

Conduct applied research in the field of Criminology and related Sciences
To recommend the Government on policies on Criminal justice
Assist the policy planners on Criminal Justice Issues including – Evaluation and Impact Assessment of Schemes and Extend Faculty Support and Resource Persons to CJF functionaries/ institutions.
