3D Printing Facility

The 3D printing facility(Fabforge V1) is a Fused Filament Fabrication based additive technology used to manufacture various components. It works by converting 3D CAD engineering drawings into solid objects from a continuous filament of ABS/PLA through a heated printer extruder head and deposited to form layers. The object is built, layer by layer, with each layer the thickness of a human hair. It allows designers and engineers to create complex and lightweight parts rapidly. This new facility in the department is set to transform engineering design and teaching activities and better equip students for employability in a changing world of Aerospace.

Composite Fabrication Facility

Composite Fabrication - Vacuum Resin Transfer Moulding facility

Composite materials are known for high strength to weight and high stiffness to weight ratios. Among various methods, the two ways of making the fibre reinforced polymer composite plates, such as the hand layup and the vacuum assisted resin infusion techniques are available in the laboratory.
